Tips to Avoid Insect Bites  

  • Avoid wearing anything scented like flowers or fruit- insects will be attracted to you

  • Essential oils- (especially citronella, lemongrass, peppermint, basil, and citrus oils)*

  • Vinegar- ants especially hate it!

  • Plants- especially citronella, lemongrass, catnip and basil

  • Rub citrus peels on your skin or leave them around the area

  • Dryer sheets- some people swear by keeping a dryer sheet in their pocket to keep the bugs away

  • Light colored clothing- insects are attracted to bright and dark colors

  • Relax- our bodies produce chemicals insects are attracted to when we are stressed or sweating
