Top 5 Must-Haves for a Natural First-Aid Kit

Every home should have a well-stocked first-aid kit with the essentials to cover minor injuries and illnesses.  Beyond the basics of bandages and gauze there are a few natural/ holistic products that are great to have on hand and  versatile.

#1- Soothing Salve

This is probably our best multi-tasking product.  Use it for cuts, diaper rash, sunburn, rashes, cold sores, ringworm and more!  It has a pleasant smell and is definitely a must-have for a natural first aid kit!

#2- Aloe

It doesn’t matter if you choose to have aloe gel in your fridge of a fresh aloe plant, aloe is excellent to have on hand.  It is anti-inflammatory, hypoallergenic and great for burns, rashes, sunburn and dry skin.  (It is also lovely to add to homemade shampoos in place of water!)

 

#3- A Variety of Teas

We have ginger tea pictured here.  Ginger tea is a great option because it helps boost the immune system, is good for upset stomachs, is warming on a cold day, and can help with recovery from illness or stomach bugs.  Having a variety of herbal teas is a great idea when building your natural first aid kit.  You can give teas to help calm someone after an injury, to help boost the immune system, to unwind at the end of the day and for many more reasons! Try herbs like spearmint, chamomile, nettle, and red raspberry.

#4- Lympha Rub

This is another awesome multi-tasker.  Lympha Rub is a go-to for many of our families at the first sign of illness.   It is full of antiseptic and antimicrobial essential oils and can be used topically or internally (with older children and adults). It also feels awesome on sore muscles and the spine.

#5- Lavender

For some people,  the smell of lavender alone helps them to feel better.  Lavender essential oil is awesome to have on hand for a variety of uses around the home and injuries.  Dried lavender can be made into tea, added to bath water, smelled for relaxation and put into a sachet under the pillow to aid sleep.   When fresh lavender is in bloom, it is lovely to put into a vase and allow the calming smell to fill the room and the lovely purple color to relax the body.
