How to Have a Less Scary Halloween for Kids with Food Allergies
For children with food allergies or following a special diet, Halloween can seem like more of a burden than fun. Thankfully, a project launched last year helps to ensure that all children can have a blast Trick-or-Treating and not have to worry about if the treat will conflict with their dietary needs!
FARE (Food Allergy Research & Education) launched “The Teal Pumpkin Project.” This was created just for kids with food allergies to have a safe and fun night Trick-Or-Treating!
For parents of children with food allergies, you can hop over to their website and find all the homes in your area who have registered with the project. These are homes that will be providing non-food treats and will have a Teal Pumpkin outside! You can pre-plan your route and ensure that your child can still participate in Trick or Treating.
Anyone can register to provide allergy-friendly treats. All you need to do is choose a non-food item to give out and register your address, and paint a pumpkin tea There are many ideas, printables and tips provided by FARE. Last year all 50 states had participants.
In a world with a growing number of children with food allergies and intolerances, this project offers a great way to help kids have a fun night. Make sure to share it with parents of children with allergies that you might know about!
