Herb of the Day: Wintergreen (Not just a yummy flavor!)

Herb Of The Day Wintergreen

Wintergreen is typically associated with toothpaste, gum or mouthwash.  Generally, this is a synthetic wintergreen flavor that lends the cool minty flavor we’re familiar with.  This shrubby evergreen native to North America contains methyl salicylate which is similar to aspirin and has historically been used by Native Americans and early American settlers for headaches and pain relief.  Wintergreen is often added to pain-relief creams and gels as well.
