Herb of the Day: Blue Cohosh

Blue cohosh is a beautiful herb best known by midwives. It's also commonly used for seizures and many other health concerns.

Blue Cohosh (Caulophyllum thalactroides) is also called squaw root or papoose root. It was commonly used by Native American tribes and later by Europeans and midwives. It is commonly found in the eastern forest of the US though it can be found across many parts of North America.

Traditional Uses:

  • Starting labor
  • Constipation
  • Hiccups
  • Seizures
  • Cramps
  • Sore Throats
  • Labor

Use in Labor

Blue Cohosh is traditionally used with false labor, to prevent miscarriage, and to assist by dilating the cervix. It is also used as a uterine stimulant and for toning and inflammation.
