FAQ: Can herbs hurt instead of help/ Are herbs safe?
Are herbs safe? & Can herbs hurt instead of help? These are two of the most commonly asked questions we get here at TriLight. Adjusting to herbal remedies can be a big transition for many people and we relate to the confusion and overwhelm. Some people have allergic reactions just as they do with certain foods but this doesn’t mean all food is bad for you!
Educating yourself, and using in moderation according to manufacturer’s recommendation, herbs can be a wonderful alternative to drugs with the common toxic side-effects. We have a full education section as well as several herbal books to help you as a starting point for learning more. Some things to keep in mind
Herbs are not a concentrate or drug so effects can take longer.
If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, be sure to check the safety of the herbs. Some herbs should not be used during this time.

Normally improvement for an acute (short-term) symptom is seen with a few days with chronic (persistent over a long period of time) problems taking longer.
It is not uncommon to adjust the dosage and herbs needed for individual needs.
Using herbs more frequently and alternating formulas during times of illness is not uncommon.
A rule of thumb is one month of healing for every year of the problem. If you do not see some kind of result within these guidelines one should consider switching to another formula.
Use herbs only as needed and reduce consumption as problem improves and discontinue use when well.
When using herbs alongside prescriptions ALWAYS check with your practitioner to make sure there are no negative interactions.
For example, St. John’s Wort & Kava Kava should not be combined with antidepressants.

Make sure to use the right herbs at the proper time. For example, tonic herbs (such as in our N R G formula) may actually make a cold/flu worse.
Most herbs work best on an empty stomach. 15+ minutes on either side of a meal or more is what most individuals prefer.
Those with food allergies or sensitive stomachs may choose to start out slowly and evaluate each herb individually.
